I like to paint the plants I see growing around me and I happen to have rather a lot of Brambles thriving in my garden! They have long been a crop gathered by humans for food and medicinal purposes and they are also an important food source for wildlife.

Brambles are quite challenging to paint due to the intwined nature of the stems but are worth the effort as they provide a lot of interest with their combination of textures characterised by shiny fruits which ripen from green through red to dark purple, spiky stems and distinctive leaves made up of serrated oval leaflets.
