My medlar tree has been growing in my garden for over 40 years. While it is something I have always planned to paint, like many easy-to-access specimens, it has so far been shelved on to the ‘to-do’ list. On seeing the Botanica Scotia criteria for subject matter, I thought that this would be the ideal opportunity to paint my medlar tree. I have tried to capture the essence of the plant through shape, colour, texture and pattern using mixed media, as there are an abundance of details to pick out. I have enjoyed working on this and, now it is completed, I can tick it off my ‘bucket list’.
